QuilteQunstnerne is a group of textile artists whose medium is the art quilt (hence the name, which means“The QuiltArtists”). An art quilt is a pictorial work employing textile techniques such as sewing, printing, embroidery and quilting. Art quilts are not the utilitarian objects to which textiles traditionally have been put to use. On the contrary, the special characteristics of fabric and thread, such as texture, luster, frailty and pliability are the basis for forms of expression unique to textiles.
The art quilt is an international movement which arose in the late 1960’s and has spread to Australia, Japan and throughout Europe. Quilt artists from different countries meet and exchange ideas through seminars, periodicals, competitions and exhibitions. Moreover, quilt artists see their work in a wider perspective – as being a part of the world of visual art and culture of today.

Bettina Andersen’s 3-dimensional piece, “Lighthouse.” You can see this work, and 70 others by QuilteQunstnerne’s members, at the summer exhibition at Dronninglund.
QuilteQunstnerne was established in 1996 and comprises members from all over Denmark, 2 from Sweden and one from Norway. The group exhibits collectively, individually and in small groups.
